Diwali Program is finalized on the 10th of November 2007.

 

Cultural Program start @ 3:00 pm

 

General Body Meeting and 2008 Elections

 

We are pleased to announce the general body meeting and election for 2008. Executive committee will be held on November 10th at the John Connally High School.  The elections will be held in conjunction with our Diwali celebration. Any member interested in joining the board is invited to submit the nomination forms to the election committee by 9th of November, 2007.  The nomination forms are available on the website. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

 

Ÿ         Age over 21 years for at least 6 of the 8 members, 2 members can be under 21 years but over 18 years old.

 

Ÿ         Valid membership in good standing for the current year. (Year of the term of the executive board directors membership) and a member of the GSGA for at least one immediate preceding year or member of the GSGA for any 3 consecutive years.

 

Ÿ         Must be willing to honor, abide by and protect the constitution by laws, principles, values and beliefs of the GSGA.

 

Ÿ         Must be able to speak Gujarati. Exception (Two youth members)

 

Ÿ         Nomination Forms are due 24 hrs. before election time

Policies:

 

  • Footwear is not allowed on the dance floor. Indian Attire is encouraged

she again has a leading role to play. BAA E MAARI BOUNDARY is a

social satirical comedy with its main protagonist being Bharti Bhatia, an

old and a lonely woman whose status in her disturbed and strained family

is nothing more than that of a piece of furniture. The treatment meted out

 to her is either full of humiliation or that of indifference.

    GSGA ANNUAL PICNIC ON APRIL 15th, 2007              
          LOCATION:  Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park  
Come and join us for a fun-filled day of activities,
games and Great food!!

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is located in northeast Austin. The park is .6 kilometers to the east of the intersection of Yager Lane and I-35. It sits on the west side of North Lamar and about .8 kilometers south of the intersection of Parmer Lane and Lamar.
 
This park offers lush greenery . It has a large covered area for sitting and eating in the shade, big areas for walking, playing games and excellent facilities. The picnic area is reserved for us. We will have snacks, lunch and games/activities for a truly enjoyable family event.
 
 
While the picnic is organized for the pleasure of the members of Gujarat Samaj only (NO tickets for members), please feel free to invite your Gujarati friends and relatives. This is a great opportunity for non-members to enroll and get an idea of upcoming events with annual family membership dues of just $25 ( for non members ).
 
PLEASE bring camping folding chairs, caps, sun screen lotions for your family.

 Annual Diwali Celebration

 

 

We are now planning our Diwali event. We will have a cultural program where members of our Samaj can

showcase their talent! You can present a group dance, group song or a short skit. Be creative!

 

Date : October 22nd 2006

Venue: Connally High School : 13212 North Lamar, Austin Texas 78753

Time : 3.00 pm – 5.30 pm Cultural Program (We start at 3.00 pm sharp!)

 

5.45 pm – 6.45 pm Annual General Body Meeting and Election

7.00 pm – 8.00 pm Dinner

Tickets: $10 per person. $5 for participants. Children 5 yrs and under are free. Note that this is a members

only event. Tickets are available from contacts listed for Navratri. Due to capacity limits, only 500 tickets will

be sold.

Tickets are NOT available at the gate. Tickets may only be purchased in advance until Oct 15th from

Navratri contacts.

Guidelines for Cultural Program:

  Only GSGA Members can participate on Cultural Program.

• Solo items are not allowed. This is to ensure most number of children can participate.

• Each (song/dance) item must be maximum of 5 minutes in length.

• Deadline for registration of items is Sept 22nd.

• Every group must submit an audition Video tape/dvd by Oct 1st. The gsga committee will review and

select items for the program.

• All songs must be provided on a CD, and the CD should only contain one song. All CD’s must be

   submitted by Oct 5th.

The eligibility requirements are as follows

• Age over 21 years for at least six of eight members; and two members may be under 21, but over 18 years

old.

• Valid membership in good standing, for the current year (year of the term of the executive board of

directors membership), and a member of the GSGA for at least one immediately preceding year, or

member of GSGA for any three consecutive years.

• Must be willing to honor, abide by and protect the constitution, bylaws, principles, values and beliefs of

the GSGA.

• Must be able to communicate in Gujarati language (exception: two youth members)

Trustees

Members interested in joining the board of trsutees are invited to submit nomination forms to the election

committee by Oct 20th 2006.

The trustee positions are held on a rotating basis with trustees serving 2-year terms. This year two trustee

positions are being vacated and therefore only election for two trustee positions will be held.

The eligibility requirements are as follows

• Valid membership in good standing, for the current year (year of the term of the council of trustees

membership).

• Should have been active members of GSGA, prior to the election, for at least last two consecutive years

(not counting the year of their tenure of duties for which a position is sought).

• Should haven been active member of GSGA for three of the last five years, or must have served on the

GSGA executive board of directors for at least one year.

• Age 25 years or above.

• Must be willing to honor, abide by and protect the constitution, bylaws, principles, values and beliefs of

the GSGA.

• Must be able to communicate in Gujarati language. Must be able to speak and read Gujarati language;

preferably should be able to write in Gujarati script.
