Diwali Cultural Festival & General Body Meeting

 

 

We are pleased to announce that this year we will have a Diwali cultural program.  We look forward to members of our Samaj showcasing their talents! You can present a group dance, songs, short skits. Be creative! The date and venue details will be provided in future newsletters. The program will be held on October 18th 2009 ( Sunday ).

 

Date   : October 18nd 2009 ( Sunday -- Gujarati New Year )

Venue: Connally High School : 13212 North Lamar, Austin Texas 78753

Time: 3.00 pm – 5.30 pm   Cultural Program (Seating 2.30pm, Show starts at 3.00 pm sharp!)

             5.45 pm – 6.45 pm   Annual General Body Meeting and Election

             7.00 pm – 8.00 pm   Dinner

 

Tickets: $12 per person. $8 for children/seniors. Children 5 yrs and under are free. Note that this is a member’s only event. Due to capacity limits, limited numbers of tickets will be sold.

It’s that time of year again! Get your dresses, dandias and energy ready for two blockbuster weekends!

 

Dates: Fridays and Saturdays - Sept 18 , 19 , 25 , and 26th, from 8.00pm -12.00 midnight

We will have discounted tickets for those members who buy them in advance. You must renew your membership to get the members discounted rate. Simply fill out the membership form at the end of this newsletter and take it to one of the contacts listed below. This will serve you better as you will not have to wait in long lines. So help us to help you. Note that advance tickets sales are only available until Sept 15th. You can also renew your membership and purchase tickets on the day of the event, but at higher ticket rates.  The rates for Navratri tickets advance purchase and purchase at the door are as follows:

Navratri offers special sponsorship opportunities. To help the Samaj continue to present various events, we are requesting your donations. For donations of $101 or more, the Samaj will provide a number Navratri tickets free as a token of our appreciation.

Banner Advertisements: We are accepting banner advertisements. The rate is $750 for all 4 days. The banner can be up to 8’x3’ approximately. It must have gromits. Contact Satyajeet Dodia, 336-2030.

 

Aarti : For donations of $101 or more, if you would like to perform Aarti please contact Shamik Kacker (989-8474). We also welcome members who would like to provide dry Prasad, or sponsor Lhani (Lha8I).

 

Policies to Note:

  • This is a religious event. Footwear is not allowed on the dance floor. Dress appropriately.
  • Outside food and drinks may not be brought in. Alcohol may not be brought in.
  • Members are requested to ensure that their children do not leave the main hall

Seniors Gujarati Music and Entertainment Program

GSGA is pleased to invite all our seniors to an afternoon of Gujarati music and entertainment. This is an informal program. We invite you to present gujarati lok geet, ghazals, bhajan, and also entertainment items such as jokes and shairi.

GSGA   ANNUAL   PICNIC

We are still planning to host the picnic at the mentioned time. Weather should clear up by Saturday morning.

!! PLEASE bring camping chairs, hats, sun lotions, caps & kites !!

If we are forced to make any changes due to weather, we will host the details here.

Finally a must attend event, GSGA Annual Picnic, for GSGA families is coming closer

Besides excellent food, we will have games and activities for Kids and Adults. On members request, we are hosting this Picnic in an in-city park and on Saturday evening.

Special General Body Meeting and 2009 Elections 

We are pleased to announce a special general body meeting. At this meeting we will conduct the election of the 2009 operating committee as well as two trustees. 
Please note that according to the constitution, since this is a deferred election meeting, there are no quorum requirements. We have received nominations for all 

positions of the operating committee and two trustee positions. The election will be completed by majority vote of attending trustees and current committee

members. 

The meeting is open to all Samaj members.

General Body Meeting & Elections

 

GSGA’s annual General Body meeting and Diwali dinner was held on Sunday November 9th 2008.

An excellent performance by the Ramzzat group was followed by a delicious dinner.

 

Unfortunately the attendance was very thin and we feel sorry for all the members who

missed this wonderful event, which was highly subsidized by the Samaj.

 

The Annual General body meeting was held and a summary of the events for the year and

accounts were presented and passed by the General Body. No new Office bearers were elected

for the Fiscal 2009 year because of lack of nominations.

 

As per the by-laws, we are going to have another meeting on the 14th of December 2008 to

conduct the Elections. Please plan on attending. The venue and timing are as follows:
